The Maathrudev Foundation Team is on a mission to build a Self-Sustainable Village in a place called Thiruvadisoolam (village behind Mahindra World City under Chengalpat District, in Tamil Nadu) with the comprehensive package of resources needed to live a self-made life, from fresh air, food, water, peaceful atmosphere, healthy lifestyle, fundamental education, self-supported activities to earn money along with cultural entertainments and the essence of rural existence.
The current status of the place Thiruvadisoolam is being made truly inspirational by our team members and villagers who tirelessly work towards the betterment of the locale and its people. There are various measures adopted to bring the place to the forefront. In the process of transforming the splendid area into a vigorous greenery, 3500 trees have been planted in and around the village. Health camps are being conducted where even special treatments such as traditional massage, physiotherapy and Acupressure methods are also employed. Regular ‘annadhanam’ in temples and other places have been arranged and wastes associated with this food preparation is converted into beneficial products like fertilizers and manure.
Our program has three projects embedded within it. Each project comprises of multitudinous activities.
At the outset of the program MaraMaraM, a vital move called Vrindavan would be carried through. This act deals with multitudinous undertakings in the village to make its environment stronger than ever.
The very first segment of Vrindavan is to implement Rain water harvesting, the supreme way forward for irrigation! The magnificant lake of thiruvadisoolam village is revamped, cleaned and de-silted. The process of which calls for a large number labour involving in working and maintenance of the project. The other intriguing side of the segment is constructing a Reverse Osmosis plant that includes nano filtration system, proving drinking water for the vicinity. The ultimate outcomes of these activities range from – revamping the lake and surrounding areas, easily obtained drinking water, increased level of groundwater and storage water. Apart from these, people and animals in the neighbouring areas of PATTRAVAAKAM, ANJUR and THENUR receive the benefits of the project.
The second segment of Vrindavan comprises the production of fertilizers and fuel from wastes. The ‘annadhaanam’ unit of the village temple takes the responsibility of feeding legions of devotees pouring every year leading to the accumulation of all types of vegetable wastes, liquid wastes, leftovers, and human wastes. These wastes are productively converted into Bio Gas and Bio Fertilizers. It is noteworthy that these activities can put a large number of rural women and men at employment.
The next step includes plantation of tress and saplings. In the extensive land, variegated species of plants, vegetables and flowers are to be seeded. These flowers can be utilized by the temple for different purposes such as making garlands. Also, the vegetables from the plantation can again be used for cooking in the temple and the water needed for various purposes can be obtained from wastewater treatment plan. Along with these advantages, many villagers can be employed in the land, especially women can be provided livelihood as they assist with activities involving flowers and plants. On that account, it is commendable that rural women are employed right from the first segment of the program.
With the venture of reinforcing the natural atmosphere of the village, the team’s concentration is directed towards the healthy living of villagers, leading to our second project Matha Tapovanam. Here the team would work on multifaceted segments.
The first segment of Matha Tapovanam is to construct a hospital in the village. The hospital will comprise all the essential components needed for the proper functioning of it. Along with the hospital facilities being accessible, it will also be made affordable, both, for the benefit of the people as well as for the sustainability of the management. The extension of the multifarious unit encompasses plans to conduct monthly medical camps in all districts for free consultation along with assistance provided to cancer patients around the village.
The second segment would be an effort to elucidate the practices of naturopathy. The aim of the activity is to revive some of the ancient medical practices like Siddha, Ayurveda, Unani and homoeopathy. Yearly conferences are planned to provide a forum for such medical professionals to share their ideas. A campaign to espouse indigenous disciplines of Yoga, meditation, chanting and other related activities would be organized in mud houses.
Consequently, with a perfect environment and health, people can search for their cultural roots as the next evolving step in their lives. The intention of this segment is to restore interest in conventional art forms of folk genres and to make the village embody the cultural flavour of the land. On the other hand, these activities set up a huge stage for folk artists to assert their identities and give an opportunity to build up their careers. Along with these entertainment programs, people can taste an array of meals prepared with the ingredients exclusive to the village. This would again encourage rural women to have their own food stalls to earn some money. Completely, people can have the best rural experience in their lives.
With a proper environment, strong body and spirit of native cultures, people can look forward to strengthening their minds as a follow-up. In order to increase the standard of living, educational provisions and platforms to help earn a living are to be provided to the village as a last element Thinnai Pallikoodam of the program MaraMaraM.
Students belonging to the adolescent age groups would be given special programs on value education. The main objective of this program is to make youngsters walk in the right path of life. Since it is necessary to foster our ethical and cultural values in their minds. Children of 15 to 21 years should be handled in a way that they are inspired to earn as soon as they complete their education without falling prey to immoral principles. This would together contribute to a healthy society as today’s children are tomorrow’s citizens. Maramaram team provides students of 8th to 12th standards with activities teaching the core values of culture, society and nation. These programs teach children the ways of caring about others, honesty, responsibility, patriotism and other important traits that make for an upstanding citizen
MaraMaraM team creates a platform for young students to make a living on their own. All activities have endless possibilities such as sculptures can be made with metals or stones of their choice and students can be taken in as assistants very soon, girls can be employed in making rings and garlands with flowers and grains for other countries as well, even the annadhanam unit can offer trainings to students interested in cooking and dairy farming can also be done with the help of cattle available in the village. Therefore, children are guaranteed a successful future alongside good code of conduct.
The third and the last activity covers plans to issue merit scholarships to students. A panel would be established to select 200 deserving children annually to grant them financial support for their higher education. Another important aspect of this project, encourages students who pass out successfully from the village to come back to the same schools to share their knowledge to the children of next generation. Thus, this activity generates a cycle of learning and teaching for millions of generations to thrive.
